Ten Words, Two Stones, Three Truths

“Run, John, run the law commands,
But gives me neither feet nor hands;
Far better news the gospel brings:
It bids me fly; it gives me wings.”

I was late today. And it was raining. I felt so cold. But one thing for sure, I should not be not on the best seat for my favorite speaker. I understood that there was nothing in this life that will last forever, not even a good preacher. So, I intended to make every minutes counted. So, I boldly moved to the front seat sitting there alone and cold.  Thank goodness, as the sermon was delivered, a group of New Zealanders sat on my row. Now, that will help to ease this coldness. I can be more relaxed in enjoying today. It was all about the ten commandments.

As every good Bible teacher would do, he expectedly open his preach with something catchy. Well, he opened the sermon with a song, kiddy song, the ten commandments. It was a warm breeze to this cold sanctuary, where we can witness the sincerity of children singing for God. And I learnt it as quickly as I could.

As The Ten was given by God. We, instead of showing ourselves worthy to be His chosen nation, started to break The Law. Making an Egyptian god, we worship other god. Afraid of the consequences, we appointed Moses to be our mediator. But who will be Moses’, as he was also just a fallen human. And here lied what Bunyan wrote, “Far better news the Gospel brings” where Christ Jesus, a perfect human, Son of God, paid the consequences of sin, be our mediator and save us from The Law.

The Law was never meant to be fulfilled. God knew that we will never be able to fulfill it. The Law was meant for us to realize that we will not be able to keep holiness. It was always meant to make us realize that we need Christ Jesus, our savior. There is no winner in the game of holiness. Don’t even try to play it. We have been given his grace of forgiveness  of our inability to keep our life holy.

Embrace it and come to Him…

Come to Him every time I think of friends who got scholarships to London. Ask His forgiveness for being so covetous. Come to Him every time I think of friends who are getting married. Ask forgiveness for the jealousy that rage within. Come to Him every time I think of people whose life was so fully blessed. Ask forgiveness for not able to see how my life is actually as fully blessed as theirs.

Just come to Him, and He will come to you. Embrace Him and He will embrace you.

Ten Words, Two Stones, Three Truths. The Story of God. Exodus 20.
