Clash of Culture

Few days ago, my Facebook timeline was flooded with a post shared from local.dk issuing the headline of “Expats: Denmark ‘world’s worst’ for making friends“. I was planning to voice something about it but could not find the necessary motivation. Until yesterday, I spoke to a friend and she really hit my motivation button.

I have to say that people are being slightly harsh to the danes. Pointing out someone else’s weakness in broad public, under spotlight, will not help in making friends with the danes.

Denmark was dead last when it comes to the ease of making friends, 64th for being made to feel welcome and 60th for the perceived friendliness of the locals.

A Walk Through My Birthday

with 2 comments

Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life.

IMG_0406

This year I celebrated my birthday differently. I usually get on my knees at 00.00 to whisper a simple prayer of thankfulness for years that passed and hope for years to come.

This year, or last night, it was different. I was standing in line to enter a club, called Budha Bar, when the clock hit 00.00 CET.

Was I becoming less religious?

I hope the change of routine does not define my faith to God nor it makes me less religious. To all fairness, I did whisper a short prayer, with a very happy smile of “Thank you God” when I was standing there. It was as if He was standing next to me, along with my friends who hugged and kissed me and wished me happy birthday. Thank you for making me feel loved on this birthday.

A Letter for Mom.

with 5 comments

Dear Mom,

I hope this letter find you well. I dont wanna be melodramatic by writing this letter but I have to say, I have been thinking abouth death more than usual.

Remember, my dream to be an architect? I always wanted to be an architect. I always dream to build a home where my family can live and I also made a smaller cottage in the backyard for you to live with me all the days of our lives. I remember I can just hop to your cottage and see you playing with my kids. That was the dream. It had been long crushed when you died.

Spring is here! …or so they say.

But we had Spring Break anyway (eventhough, it was not spirnglike in Copenhagen) and I spent my last Spring Break in Frankfurt, Germany for a couple of days. I went there because my brother and his wife were travelling to Europe but they could not manage to squeeze in Copenhagen in their intinerary. So, I went down to meet them in Frankfurt.

I thank God for life.

Earlier today, when I was getting ready for church I opened facebook and read a shocking news about the missing AirAsia plane flying from Surabaya to Singapore. My jaw dropped. It is the airline which I most frequently fly with. I had no word to describe it but to scroll and scroll facebook page to know more news about it. Then I remember…

Just last night, I was talking with a friend about to board on a plane from Moscow to Cologne. And he and I were upset because his flight was delayed due bad weather in Frankfrut. We said in unison how sucks it was.

I felt my cheeks got warmed almost as if God slapped me in the face. I shouldn’t complaint about anything because I wouldn’t know about anything that might happen.

Oh, I thank God for life. Yes, for some, you might want to end yours (been there) but if we were patient God might use His time to reveal marveloua things.

In everything Give Thanks! Always remember that, Lenti.

Praying for the families of the AirAsia incident. May the gracious God fills your hollow soul. Amen.
